The Elkhart City Historic Preservation Commission accepted the financial report for 2025 and heard several non-decision items including training announcements and enforcement follow-up requests.
A staff member read the financial report into the record and said the 2025 appropriation listed $8,000; a professional-services invoice dated March 1 for $3,800 had been processed, leaving $4,200 in the operating appropriation. The meeting packet also listed a historic donation account balance of $5,467.92. The commission voted to accept the financial report as provided.
Deb encouraged commission members to register for the state historic preservation conference in Fort Wayne (Sept. 30–Oct. 3) and reminded members the commission’s Certified Local Government (CLG) receives two scholarships that cover conference registration and lodging. Deb and others emphasized early registration, noting lower rates now than closer to the conference.
Commissioner Bill reported active construction on the Simpson-Love house on Franklin Street and asked staff to check whether the commission had been notified or whether approvals were in place. Deb said she was not aware of current work and staff would follow up. Separately, a question was raised about 142 State Street (Mr. Jones) concerning unresolved window issues; speakers said Mr. Jones had indicated he would accept fines and that fines may apply per day, and the commission asked that Kyle follow up with Eric to provide an update.
The commission also announced lead-related training opportunities: an 8-hour RRP (renovation, repair and painting) class, a two-day lead abatement worker class, and a four-day lead project supervisor class with sessions in June and in September (examples given included June 27 and Sept. 22 for particular courses). Deb and others indicated they would circulate email details and printed flyers were available at the meeting.
These items were entered into the commission record; the finance acceptance and the staff follow-ups were the formal outcomes recorded at the meeting. No enforcement motions or new fines were enacted at the session; staff were assigned investigatory follow-ups.
