Richard Willingham, a resident of Southwest 90th Street, told the Traffic and Transportation Commission on July 21 that the bike lanes added at Southwest 30th Street and Walker Avenue have caused recurring backups when northbound and southbound traffic attempt left turns during rush hour.
Willingham proposed installing no-left-turn signs for both directions during peak periods, or alternatively adjusting signal timing or using a Michigan-left design. He said the conflict causes long queues and repeated backups during peak traffic.
Commissioners and staff discussed options. Traffic Services staff said turn restrictions can be implemented administratively and suggested staff could run turning-movement counts and consider a time-of-day left-turn restriction if warranted. The commission asked Willingham to leave contact information so staff could follow up; staff indicated they would examine counts and potential time-of-day restrictions.
The exchange did not result in a formal commission motion; staff described the follow-up as administrative action.
