Jerry (Mac) presented the proposal and said the work is aimed at getting the levees certified so residents could see a reduced flood-insurance rating. “We need to get the condition off of that,” he said, describing the CLOMR status and the effort to secure final mapping changes. The contract will use funds already set aside for the levee project, according to staff.
Council and staff noted the city had engaged a congressional office to assist with expediting mapping considerations. The board voted to approve the contract; staff said the vendor will proceed with FEMA submissions and related certification work.
The board did not specify a firm timeline for FEMA action; staff said a local FEMA representative is expected to visit August 26 as part of the review process. The contract is intended to complete the engineering tasks required to obtain a final levee certification and reduce mapping restrictions.
