Staff said the project timeline calls for staged construction so that bridge access is preserved for as long as possible and that work will begin from the Pawtucket Boulevard side and progress across the river. The new structure was described as an approximately 80–84‑foot‑wide bridge with four travel lanes and separated pedestrian and bicycle paths plus observation decks. Staff noted the project cost estimate has grown and that the program includes an escalator to account for inflation; staff referred to an estimated capital cost in the order of hundreds of millions and cited a figure near $300 million.
Staff said the project team held a public meeting that drew more than 100 attendees, that additional community outreach meetings are planned, and that construction and environmental permits and the project funding package remain in progress.
