Committee hears cemetery administration building is under design and will use Cemetery Trust Fund

Staff told the advisory committee that a new office and maintenance building for the municipal cemetery is under design and expected to go to planning and zoning review in September. "It's under design now. It'll go to planning and zoning probably in September," staff said during the meeting.

Staff said the current facility was an old pavilion that was closed in years ago, does not meet codes and has issues that make a new building necessary for staff operations and respectable administration of cemetery functions. Funding will come from the Cemetery Trust Fund; staff explained that roughly half of plot-sale proceeds are directed to the capital trust while the other half go to operations.

A committee member asked whether the trust fund existed and how it was used; staff replied the trust is intended primarily for capital projects and is structured so the capital trust can sustain operations when plots are sold out.
