Summary
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee scheduled a site visit to the Hurricane Harbor (Crabby Bills) waterfront site for a walkthrough and to prepare a shortlist of uses for city council and public workshops.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee scheduled a site visit for July 28 at 5:30 p.m. to inspect the Hurricane Harbor/Crabby Bills waterfront site and prepare a shortlist of recommendations for city council. Staff said council asked the committee to recommend facility size, catering and program ideas before the city seeks consultant services for design.
Staff said the consultant's scope will be required to include public engagement before design begins. "One of the things we'll require of the consultant that we hire is to have public engagement before design begins," staff said. Committee members were advised to keep an open mind about uses for the site; staff noted the council has already chosen to remove the existing building.
Committee members asked logistical questions about parking and existing 3-D and plan drawings that staff circulated in advance of the walkthrough. Staff said the site visit is a noticed public meeting under Sunshine Law; staff will take roll call and assemble poster boards so members can note ideas during the walk-through. Staff also confirmed that certain grant conditions will require incorporation of an educational or fishing-history component into future designs.
