Planning staff proposed a zoning text amendment to replace references to “special use permits” with “conditional use permits” across chapters 6, 21, 23 and 25 of the municipal code and asked the Planning Commission to table the item for further review.
Staff said the change mirrors terminology used in most other Nebraska cities and state statute and represents a substantial code cleanup concentrated in article 13 of chapter 25. The amendment would also affect fee schedules in chapter 6, a small item in the subdivision code (chapter 21), and a water chapter reference. Staff noted a handful of provisions would be repealed (including a rarely used perimeter fence application) and asked for additional time to walk commissioners through the full scope.
Planning staff said, “I—9d request a tabling so that way I can present to you guys and then, at the next meeting, we can go in more depth about it.” Commissioners voted to table the amendment; staff will return with a more detailed presentation at the July meeting.
The commission’s vote to table preserves the status quo while staff prepares a more comprehensive review and draft ordinance language for commissioners to consider.
