City staff updated the Scottsbluff City Council on progress toward a new transfer station and related landfill planning. Staff said the engineering firm HDR will hold a kickoff meeting to support the conditional-use permit process, siding design and preparation of project financials.
Staff noted the purchase agreement for the land expires in January and said the transfer-station permitting and design work is intended to proceed quickly. Officials said the city anticipates bonding the project and is attempting to time the transfer station to come online before Gering’s landfill reaches capacity; staff mentioned a projected date of May 27 for Gering’s change in status and said they would confirm timing with HDR.
Council was told work is ongoing on designs and financial analysis; staff characterized the transfer-station design as looking favorable so far. No formal action was taken; the item was an informational council report.
