The Scottsbluff City Council awarded the contract for the 40 Second Street Mill and Overlay Project (Avenue I to West City Limits; Fifth Avenue to East City Limits) to Simon Contractors for $624,237.50, below the engineer's estimate of $672,000.
Doug Onder of Public Works said the city received a single bid from Simon Contractors and that the contract is scheduled to begin Aug. 4 with a 15-calendar-day completion window. Onder noted that tie-ins for a cemetery sewer connection will require one sewer crossing under the street at Hilltop where a manhole exists; the sewer work will not require replacing the full length of the road.
Council members had no further comments and approved awarding the bid.
