Residents urge improved pool accessibility and promote community events during public comment

TIPP CITY, Ohio — Several residents used the public comment period to thank city departments for event support, announce community events and raise concerns about accessibility at the city pool.

Ashley Mock, public engagement coordinator with the Downtown Tipp City Partnership, thanked the council, police, fire and public works for their help with a recent block party and introduced herself to council. Bill Lendell, speaking for Tippapalooza, announced the 14th annual Tippapalooza Music Festival scheduled for Aug. 30 in downtown Tipp City and invited council and residents to attend.

During public comments, Susan Stevens said she had photographs showing difficulties elderly and disabled patrons experienced at the pool, including a man who struggled to get in and out because his arm did not work. Stevens said she would send images to City staff for council members to review. “I have a picture of some that I think would benefit the city, especially the elderly and more, disabled,” Stevens said.

Council thanked the speakers and asked staff to accept submitted materials for review; city staff and council indicated they would consider the photographs and follow up on potential accessibility improvements.

The public comment segment also included a resident, Brother Steve Gerard Sylowski, who presented materials urging the council to consider a “personhood” city designation; he provided a packet to the clerk for council review. Tiffany Fox said she had scheduled a meeting with the city manager and did not speak publicly but had previously emailed materials to staff.

Council members thanked speakers and encouraged continued public engagement on community events and accessibility concerns.
