TIPP CITY, Ohio — Lisa Santucci, director of the Tipp City Public Library, told the council that changes in the state budget approved June 30 will modify how public libraries are funded in Ohio and said the library expects an immediate funding loss, although the local impact is unclear.
“On June 30, the state budget was approved modifying how public libraries are funded in the state of Ohio. It will now be a $25,000,000 loss of funding,” Santucci told council. She said she met earlier in the day with the County Budget Commission in Troy and that the commission could not yet specify the exact local effect. “There will be an immediate loss to our funding. What that looks like, we do not know. They do not know,” she said.
Santucci asked the council to be aware that the libraryads upcoming projects — including a long‑planned parking lot repaving and grounds work funded in part by library savings — may be affected if state funding distributions change. She asked council to note that library funding supports building and grounds maintenance and thanked the council for prior collaboration on projects.
Council members acknowledged the update and did not take any immediate action at the meeting; staff and county officials will provide further details as they become available.
