The Racine Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on July 21 to approve a guaranteed energy savings agreement with McKinstry for $5,231,165 to advance a solar and energy savings initiative.
Board members said they had discussed the plan at a prior work session. During debate, board member Missus Doxey asked about a verification report for previous projects that showed an adjustment; McKinstry representative Sean Curry said a prior project experienced an inverter failure that temporarily reduced output and required an adjustment, but that the current project will include an operations and maintenance contract to monitor and promptly repair equipment.
An absent board member, Mister Coe, submitted a written comment supporting the investment and framing it as consistent with the district’s global citizenship policy and long‑term energy stewardship. "I hope we are able to look for more locations in the future," the statement said. Board members agreed the measure fit sustainability and long‑term cost goals.
The motion to approve the guaranteed energy savings agreement passed 7–0.
