Council approves resolution to apply for OPWC funds for West Clinton and Erie water and sewer work

The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to apply for Ohio Public Works Commission funds to support sanitary sewer and water improvements on West Clinton (from Hailey to the dead end) and Erie Street. Chad, the city's engineer, said the project replaces aging sanitary sewers and undersized water lines and will loop a 6-inch line to improve fire protection at the dead ends. "This is a project we started working on several years ago. This would replace the sewers as well as the water lines and, some of the pavement on West Clinton from Hailey to the dead end and then also Erie Street," Chad said. Chad told council the sanitary sewer work had been a long-term control plan project and that multiple sanitary sewer services had collapsed in the area. He said the city would apply for OPWC funding this year after the project was cut from the prior year's budget. "We don't have a final budget number on the project. Traditionally, we've been successful in achieving around 300,000 in grant money. So that is probably the amount we'll apply for," Chad said, noting that applications are scored and are typically due in September. Council moved the resolution forward with suspension and passed a first reading under emergency to allow the city manager to execute application documents and meet the OPWC timeline.
