Commissioners opened nominations for the vacancy. Commissioner Francine Scott nominated Augustus Palmer; Commissioner Don Clark nominated Tanya Barnhill. After a vote on the first nominee failed, the commission voted to appoint Barnhill by a recorded council vote and she accepted the appointment.
