The Uinta County commissioners voted July 22 to approve a name change for the Western Heritage Museum to the Museum of Uinta County and accepted a new logo, following discussions with the museum’s advisory board and public input.
Karen England, speaking for the museum, told commissioners the advisory board and community input supported the change and that the rebranding aims to reflect programming beyond western artifacts and to appeal to younger audiences. She said the museum’s website domain needed renewal and the timing was right to relaunch under the new name.
One commissioner said initially they were not in favor but after community outreach found broad support, including from long-time residents, they changed their position. The board approved the name and logo by voice vote.
Museum representatives said flyers with more details were available at the meeting; county staff will record the official name change in county records as needed.
