Commission discusses design, bids for new town park gazebo and dock capacity

This matters because a new permanent structure and expanded dock capacity would affect public use, maintenance responsibilities and potential contracting and budgeting decisions.

Commissioners described two conceptual options: a gazebo similar to the existing Hailey Pond structure and a longer rectangular pavilion or stage that would create larger usable space in front of the shelter. One participant recalled that the Hailey Pond project relied heavily on donated labor and materials and that an estimator had previously implied labor for a similar project could range roughly $5,000 to $7,000. Commissioners said they would seek input from two members not present and consider whether to solicit three bids or to contact an experienced local builder previously involved with Hailey Pond.

On the dock, staff said they are waiting for final information to proceed; commissioners noted requests for additional slips and that current capacity is insufficient. No formal vote to commit funds or award a contract was recorded; the commission discussed the likely need for bid requests and contractor coordination before taking procurement action.

Staff were urged to develop cost estimates and bid requests and report back to the commission for a future decision.
