Cabarrus County commissioners voted Wednesday to allow county employees and military veterans free admission to the Cabarrus County Fair for one day of their choice, provided they present proper identification.
The motion followed earlier debate about fee disparities between veterans and county employees. Two weeks prior, commissioners considered a structure under which veterans would have paid $6 and employees $0; after amendments and additional discussion, a motion to set both groups at $3 failed. The board then moved to adopt a policy granting each eligible person one free admission day; the motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners clarified that county employees must present a county ID and veterans must present a veterans or military ID to receive the free admission. The board recorded the final vote as 5-0 in favor.
