The council approved a solicitor’s permit for Kajetan Klimasara of Southwestern Advantage after city staff and police described the applicant’s recent presence in other communities and said there were no reported issues identified by neighboring jurisdictions.
City police told the council that because Klimasara is a Polish resident, the department was unable to perform a full background check. Staff noted Southwestern Advantage representatives have solicited in the city in previous years without reported problems. The police recommended the public ask door-to-door solicitors to show their city license; if a solicitor cannot display a license residents were instructed to contact the police department.
Several aldermen expressed opposition in principle to door-to-door solicitation even though the specific permit was granted. A motion to approve the permit passed on a roll call with all recorded votes in favor.
The council did not place additional restrictions on the permit beyond standard solicitor requirements recorded by staff at the meeting.
