Public works staff told the board July 21 that contractors have started milling and paving on Clifty Drive and are completing sidewalk work at the Michigan Road corner. Work includes full-depth patching in some segments and a plan to reconstruct the deteriorated entrance to the Walmart area, which may require a short closure and detours.
Chris said crews have combed lanes and begun milling, and that two milling machines will be in operation for a period to speed paving east toward the park and the roundabout. He said the project is expected to progress into sections approaching the roundabout and that the most deteriorated sections where the Walmart entrance meets Ivy Tech Drive may need temporary full reconstruction that will necessitate short-term closures and detours.
Wilson Avenue work is also progressing: staff reported culvert replacement is underway and paving will follow; the project is still targeted to be open before the start of the school year.
Why it matters: Clifty Drive is a long-running project with significant public attention because of traffic impacts; completion will restore travel lanes but may require temporary closures at busy entrances. Wilson Avenue project work reduces flooding and improves travel safety for school traffic.
Next steps: staff will provide notices as closures and detours are scheduled; the board said it aims to minimize disruption and communicate timing in advance.
