City schedules short shutdown of TSO for recycling-area upgrades and drainage work

Public works staff reported July 21 that the city’s transfer and recycling facility (TSO) has active construction to improve recycling storage and drainage and that the facility will close to public drop-offs for about one week during a shutdown currently targeted for the second week of September.
Chris (public works) said crews have poured nearly all sections possible before the scheduled seasonal shutdown and are installing piers for a roof over the recycling area to keep water out of stored materials. Staff are also installing a new trench drain to take water away from the building; the drain replaces a previously damaged system.
Chris told the board the planned shutdown will be about 10 days (public drop-off disruption expected for one week), with the second week of September as the target and a third week as backup depending on weather. City residential trash pickup services will continue, but public drop-off at the TSO will be closed. Staff said they are coordinating alternate drop-off options and will issue advance public notice.
