The Kirksville City Council on Thursday approved a two‑year maintenance agreement with Hydrokinetics Corporation of St. Louis to provide repair, rebuild and replacement services for pumps and motors used in the city’s wastewater system.
Public Works Director Adam Dorril explained the contract will lock pricing for two years and provide discounts on replacement parts; he said Hydrokinetics is the manufacturer’s representative for the pumps used in several lift stations. Dorril added the council must authorize the agreement because individual pump replacements can exceed $40,000.
Why it matters: The contract standardizes procurement for emergency and planned pump rebuilds and should shorten lead times and stabilize repair costs for the wastewater utility. Dorril said if the city undertakes a full lift‑station rebuild in the future, staff would consider other pump manufacturers at that time rather than remaining tied to a single vendor for new construction.
What council decided: Council voted to approve the two‑year maintenance services agreement. Staff said work orders that exceed procurement thresholds would still be brought to council for approval as required.
