Board approves personnel actions, substitute-staffing addenda and association name change; considers administrator contract raise on first reading

The Lakewood Board of Education on July 21 approved a slate of consent and human-resources items and held a first reading on amended employment contracts for district administrators.

Under the consent agenda the board approved 98 certified personnel actions (appointments, special compensations, salary and pay-rate adjustments), 57 classified personnel actions and 45 Community Recreation and Education positions in aquatics, athletics and programs. The board also approved addenda to the master service agreement with Rachel Wicksby and Associates (the district’s substitute-teacher staffing vendor) and a name change for the Lakewood Community BaseballSoftball Association intended to allow closer cooperation with the Recreation Department.

All consent items were moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Board members recorded "aye" during the vote and the items were carried.

Separately, the board had a first reading of a resolution to amend the employment contracts for the superintendent, assistant superintendent, assistant treasurer, director of operations and treasurer. Board materials noted the district customarily aligns administrator pay increases with negotiated raises for bargaining units; a 2.7% increase was cited in the discussion. The item was a first reading and the board did not vote on it; members were told the board will vote on that resolution in two weeks.

Board members discussed that the administrative increases track bargaining-unit agreements; no additional details on effective dates beyond the referenced 2.7% figure were presented at the meeting.
