County sets acceptance hearings Aug. 5 for two drainage improvement projects

Property and environmental resources staff reported that Blue Earth County Ditch 56 Branch 22 — located in Lincoln and Garden City townships and established by the county drainage authority on Dec. 19, 2023 — was constructed by Sully Excavating Inc. Staff said they had received the engineer's acceptance report and recommended setting the acceptance hearing for Aug. 5 at 9 a.m. The board moved, seconded and approved that date.
Staff also asked the drainage authority to set an acceptance hearing for the Blue Earth County 79 watershed improvement, a petition received Sept. 19, 2022, covering approximately 480 acres in Judson Township. Property and environmental resources staff reported receipt of the engineer's acceptance report and told the board that all contractual work had been completed by the contractor. The board moved, seconded and approved scheduling an acceptance hearing for Aug. 5 at 9 a.m. in the county commissioners room.
No detailed vote tallies for individual commissioners were read into the record; each request received a motion, a second and the board chair called for and recorded unanimous “aye” responses. The acceptance hearings will provide a public forum to consider the engineer's report and any remaining public comment before the drainage authority formally accepts the work.
At the July 22 meeting there was no additional discussion of projected costs, specific contractors for County 79, or post-acceptance maintenance responsibilities beyond the staff statements that contractual work was complete. Those details may be addressed at the Aug. 5 acceptance hearings.
