Cresthill council awards multiple water and roadway contracts and approves emergency public works repairs

The Cresthill City Council on July 21 approved a package of public works contracts and emergency repairs spanning water‑main work, drainage and roadway rehabilitation. City Engineer Ron Wiedemann and public‑works staff presented the projects, which were budgeted in this year’s capital program and discussed at a July work session.
Key approvals included:
- Award of a $1,795,366.25 contract to Len Cox & Son Excavating for Hillcrest Shopping Center water‑main improvements and a $224,410 construction engineering agreement with Christopher B. Burke Engineering (Resolution 1326). - Award of a $2,318,680.64 contract to MJ Underground for the Inner Circle Phase 1 water‑main and roadway rehabilitation and a $69,843 construction engineering agreement with B3 Companies (Resolution 1327). - Award of a $724,836 contract to MJ Underground for the Caton Farm water‑main extension and a $133,200 construction engineering agreement with Strand Associates (Resolution 1328). - Approval of a $716,911.65 contract with P.T. Farrell Construction Company for the 2025 roadway rehabilitation program (Resolution 1329). - Approval of a $372,282.22 contract with MYS Inc. for Kelly and Cora retaining wall replacement (Resolution 1330). - Supplemental Illinois Highway Code resolution for a salt and brine facility (section 19‑00051‑00‑MS) in the amount reported in the packet (Resolution 1331) and a traffic signal modernization / intersection improvement and resurfacing project for the Theodore/Cedarwood/Gaylord intersection (section 23‑00056‑00‑TL) in the amount $676,488.75 (Resolution 1332).
In addition, the council approved construction pay request No. 30 to Visserin Construction, an emergency pump purchase from Metropolitan Pump Company for $32,428, and an emergency repair not to exceed $150,000 for well No. 4 to Lane Christiansen Company. Each item passed by roll call as presented.
Wiedemann said most packages came in under or at budget and that construction packages will be bid and scheduled in phases; he also noted the need for engineering oversight agreements on several projects. Council members voted on each contract and engineering agreement in a series of roll calls and adopted resolutions listed above.
Staff will manage contracts through construction, track pay requests to the IEPA where required and return any change orders to council for approval.
