Planning staff told the Planning and Zoning Board that several proposed zoning‑code amendments are in development and will be brought before the board for consideration in the coming months, including regulations for self‑storage facilities, a sign code rewrite, a parking code rewrite and a code amendment to address the state’s Live Local Act.
Staff said the changes have been under preparation for several months and some items have been in progress for nearly a year. The presentation was informational only; no board recommendation or vote was required.
A staff speaker said there was a moratorium on self‑storage approvals enacted by the town commission a few months earlier and that staff’s draft regulations for self‑storage are nearly ready. The speaker also said the Live Local Act is a state law that preempts some local zoning and that the town is preparing guidance within its code to assist developers seeking Live Local projects.
Other items flagged for future hearings include a sign code rewrite, a parking code rewrite, alcohol license definition tweaks and additional clarifications to the town’s code-enforcement counter/pallet process. Staff asked board members not to plan extended absences because the amendments will arrive over the next several months.
Action taken: none; the item was for information only.
Next steps: staff will circulate drafts and ordinance language in advance of future meetings and bring specific ordinance language for each amendment back to the board for formal recommendation when ready.
