Staff said the bulk of the funding supports recycling operations and that roughly $80 is used for hazardous household waste (the briefing used that $80 figure to describe the per-period hazardous waste expenditure). Staff outlined eligible uses, including financial assistance for recycling and hazardous-waste programs, promoting regional cooperation, classroom outreach and public education. Commissioners expressed interest in reviewing option packages and encouraged staff to coordinate with the city of Shelton and other partners; staff said they would present implementation options to the solid-waste advisory group and return with recommendations.
