Corey George named Tippecanoe County Community Corrections executive director

Tippecanoe County commissioners appointed Corey George as executive director of Community Corrections on July 21.
Ben, president of the Tippecanoe County Community Corrections Advisory Board, introduced George and summarized his background in Wayne County, citing more than 25 years in criminal justice management, community program development and fiscal oversight. Ben said George managed roughly $2,300,000 in personal budgets for adult and juvenile probation and community corrections and prepares annual court-related budgets for multiple court entities; he also led development of pretrial release programs, family recovery court, operating-while-intoxicated programs, a batterers intervention program and the 2015 merger of community corrections with probation in Wayne County.
George told the board he takes the role "very serious" and emphasized a balance between rehabilitation and community safety. The board moved, seconded and approved his appointment by unanimous vote.
Commissioners welcomed George and offered assistance during his transition; according to the meeting record, George will begin work with the local team and advisory board, and the board noted prior endorsements from judicial and county officials during his vetting.
