Skokie swears in police and fire promotions and new hires
Summary
The Village swore in internal promotions and new hires across police and fire: a police commander and sergeant promotions, a fire captain and lieutenant promotions, and two new firefighters were sworn in at the meeting.

Officers sworn in included Robert (Irvin) Garcia to the office of police commander and Joseph George advancing to police sergeant; Matthew Kaner was sworn in as fire captain, Brian Handler as fire lieutenant, and Michael Mergenthaler and Michael Panek as firefighters. Mayor and departmental leaders praised their public service; family members and former department leaders were introduced during the ceremony.
The board recessed after the ceremonial swearing to allow congratulations and photographs; no formal board action was required for the oaths.
