Council approves multiple consent items including wastewater project extension, Fill the Boot waiver and donation of decommissioned school bus

The Solon City Council approved a package of consent-agenda items that included: a no-cost completion-date extension to the contract with Continental Carbon Group USA for the tertiary media replacement project at the water reclamation facility (change order No. 1); an ordinance waiving certain general-offenses and business-regulation provisions to permit the Solon Firefighters Association’s annual “Fill the Boot” muscular dystrophy fundraiser (a 28‑year tradition); and acceptance of a donated decommissioned school bus from the Solon City School District Board of Education for use by the fire department for training purposes.

The change order for Continental Carbon Group was described as extending a no-cost completion date for the water reclamation facility project; it was presented on the consent agenda as Ordinance No. 2025-144. The Fill the Boot waiver (Ordinance No. 2025-146) temporarily waives sections of the general offenses code and the business regulation code to allow the fundraising activity. The council also accepted the decommissioned bus donation (Ordinance No. 2025-149) for training use by the fire department; in remarks the fire chief thanked the council, saying the bus will provide valuable training opportunities.
