Council updates cable commission bylaws to reflect current practice

The Richmond City Council approved amendments to the cable commission bylaws and rules of procedure at its July 21 meeting after the commission reviewed and recommended updated language.
City staff said the bylaws had not been updated in many years and still referenced the Northeastern Macomb Cable Consortium (NEMC), which Richmond no longer participates in. The amended bylaws also change a minimum meeting frequency reference from no fewer than 12 meetings to no fewer than six to reflect the commission’s current bimonthly schedule.
Jason Robbins, the city’s cable coordinator, said the revisions reflect current practice and member turnover and that the commission vetted the changes at a July 2025 meeting. Council approved the amendments by voice vote.
