Anaheim approves application for state grant for Boysen Park; master plan estimated at $30 million

The City Council authorized city staff to submit an application to the California Department of Parks and Recreation for grant funding for Boysen Park and to accept any awarded grant, with the council voting 7–0 on the resolution.
Parks staff told council a master plan developed with community input estimates that full buildout of Boysen Park would cost about $30 million. The city already has approximately $15 million in prior funding for park renovation and is seeking additional grants and philanthropic support to complete the master plan in phases. A skate-park renovation was identified as an early phase and is under design.
Councilmember Kris Kurtz, who requested additional grant-seeking, said the community was eager to see continued improvements; parks staff said they will continue to seek federal, state and private funds and will phase work as dollars become available.
The resolution also declared the grant application exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under the cited code section for grant-related administrative actions.
Council voted 7–0 to authorize the application and acceptance of grant funds should they be awarded.
