Board approves $224,012 security card‑access upgrade, adds seven high‑school doors

The Duncanville ISD board on July 21 approved an installation and replacement contract for upgraded card‑access security equipment across the district and for seven additional door readers at Duncanville High School. Administration recommended DAC’s proposal, which it presented as the lowest of two regional quotes. The contract amount approved by trustees was $224,012, and the quote included 3,000 access cards, administration said. The project is funded through the state’s School Safety and Facilities enhancement (Safe Cycle 2) grant program and will replace card‑access units the district described as end of life. The district told trustees the manufacturer is the same brand as the current system but a newer model offering improved security features. The presenter said DAC’s quote was roughly $30,000 less than the other vendor and that DAC holds a contract with the Pine Board Purchasing Cooperative, which simplified procurement. Trustees asked whether the new equipment will integrate with the district’s existing system; staff confirmed the upgrade will be integrated with current infrastructure. A motion to approve the DAC proposal passed 6-0. Administration said work will commence following final contract execution and will include installation of updated readers and any necessary supporting hardware to expand card access across campus doors identified in the packet.
