Deputy Chief Pluss told the Public Health and Safety Committee on July 21 that the Wausau Fire Department finished its third recruit academy this year and that shift staffing is now fully filled, a change that the department expects will reduce overtime.
Pluss said the department still needs to fill positions in the fire-prevention bureau and a division chief of training role, but that the recruit academy graduates mark the first time the department has been fully staffed at those shift ranks since receiving a SAFER grant. Committee members said the in-house training and academy graduates were a positive development for recruitment and retention.
The committee placed the fire report on file with no additional action recorded.
