Baker City Council adopted Ordinance 3410 on June 24, 2025, approving changes to the city code that implement and retitle the transient lodging tax.
The ordinance was approved on its third reading after councilors and staff corrected several drafting issues, including the spelling of “lodging” in Section 3 and changing Section 18’s title from “transient room tax” to “transient lodging tax.” The ordinance also repeals earlier lodging-related ordinances listed in the packet.
City staff told the council the version in the packet included three final additions requested by councilors. Councilor Miller moved approval of the third reading and Councilor Kohls seconded; the motion carried with no opposing votes.
Council members did not request further changes during the meeting. The ordinance will replace the previously listed ordinances and take effect according to the implementation language in the adopted text.
Officials present at the vote included Mayor Dorte, Councilor Kohls, Councilor Joseph, Councilor Lenny, Councilor Brueland, Councilor Carr and Councilor Miller. The council treated the item as final adoption rather than a policy reopening; staff said the packet contains a redlined and a clean version for record keeping.
The council did not hold extended deliberations on the policy effects or enforcement details at the June 24 meeting; staff indicated those operational matters will follow through code implementation and administrative processes.
