Neosho County commissioners directed staff to obtain fidelity/official-bond coverage for elected officials and certain county employees, setting baseline amounts and asking staff to prepare paperwork for bonding.
The commission instructed that most elected officials — including commissioners, county attorney, county clerk and county counselor — be bonded at $50,000. For the county treasurer and the sheriff, commissioners directed staff to seek higher coverage of at least $250,000 and to come back with pricing, noting the county historically carried larger bonds for some offices.
A commissioner asked staff to get quotes and prepare the required documents to submit to the bonding company; the board then moved and approved the authorization to proceed. Board discussion referenced past practices where treasurer and sheriff bonds had been higher and noted that costs can vary depending on the required coverage.
