The Young County Commissioners Court voted 5-0 to approve a lease agreement for a new material-storage yard for Precinct 3, contingent on the City of Albany signing the contract and two corrections to the contract language.
Commissioner Craig presented the proposed lease, which relocates the precinct’s yard to property north of the current site and off state highway to improve truck access. The lease term is five years with an option for Commissioner Craig to extend for two additional five-year terms (potential total of 15 years). The draft contract included a clerical error that the court requested be corrected: Section 2.01 should specify $100 annually (not $100 per month), and payment timing language should state payments are due on the first day of each month.
The City of Albany approved the contract with those two changes but had not yet signed it; the court’s approval was expressly conditional on receipt of the city’s signed contract. The motion to approve conditioned on the city’s signature was made by Commissioner Craig, seconded by Commissioner Wiley, and passed 5-0.
Why it matters: The relocation intends to improve access and operational efficiency for Precinct 3 maintenance operations and clarifies the county’s rental obligations. The lower rent figure, as corrected, was discussed as an annual amount and the court confirmed that the city and county agreed to the corrected terms prior to final execution.
Next steps: The county judge or designated official will execute the lease after the City of Albany returns the signed contract with the agreed corrections.
