Hammond City Capital Improvement Board members approved a $29,190 change order to cover additional subgrade work on the Kennedy Avenue road‑diet project at their meeting, the board said.
The change order — identified in the agenda as Kennedy Avenue Road Diet Change Order No. 4 and tied to funding allocation number 2 58 — was necessary after staff determined chemical stabilization could not be used in a portion of the project north of the IHB Bridge because of existing oil pipelines. That portion was excavated and replaced with compacted aggregate from Indiana, which increased costs.
Board members were told the previous three change orders on the project were deductive and did not require additional funding; this was the first change order to require supplemental monies. The board voted on a motion to approve the supplemental funding and the roll call showed six votes in favor and no dissent.
The agenda item listed Milestone Contractors North as the contractor associated with the change order. The board did not discuss alternate contractors or sources of the additional funds during the public portion of the meeting.
No members of the public addressed the Capital Improvement Board during the meeting. The board noted the next meeting is scheduled for July 21 and said it is waiting for additional change orders for the Summer Street project to be posted in advance of that meeting.
