County manager previews innovation awards: mobile call center, text-to-park and jail art project among finalists

Larimer County Manager Lorinda Volker told the Board of County Commissioners on July 15 that the county’s strategic leadership committee selected three finalists for an internal innovation award.
Volker said the finalists were: Text to Park (a QR code parking payment system developed by natural resources), a Mobile Call Center for emergency management (a portable call‑center kit that can be deployed to disasters and has been borrowed by Colorado State University and the City of Fort Collins), and a Jail Art Project (art created by people incarcerated in the county jail that has been exhibited at a museum and downtown displays).
The strategic leadership committee judged the Mobile Call Center the most innovative and placed the other two finalists in a tie for second, Volker said. The county will celebrate the finalists at an innovation awards ceremony on Sept. 12; a short documentary video will be produced and posted on the county website.
Volker said human resources had received 10–12 submissions for the county innovation program; finalists were selected by a guiding principles champion group and then reviewed by the strategic leadership committee.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the county employee initiatives but did not take formal action at the meeting.
