Madison County commissioners endorse Wild and Scenic Rivers letter for Madison River section

Representatives of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition and the Madison Valley Ranch Lands Group asked the Madison County Board of Commissioners to sign a letter of support for a Wild and Scenic Rivers designation for a segment of the Madison River.
Charles Dremel of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition told the board the proposed federal bill would protect a stretch of the Madison River from the confluence of Cabin Creek down to Cherry Gulch, primarily on Forest Service, BLM and state lands. He said prior versions of similar legislation (including the Montana Headwaters Legacy Act) had been introduced in Congress and that local government support is valuable to federal delegates.
Dremel said over 1,300 Montana businesses and more than 3,000 Montana residents have supported Wild and Scenic protections in prior efforts; he presented a draft letter and asked the county to renew its previous support.
The board moved and unanimously approved execution of the County’s letter of support.
