Putnam County school board workshop narrows focus on job descriptions, hiring paperwork and admin pay

Putnam County School Board members spent a July 8 workshop reviewing how the district documents job descriptions and superintendent hiring recommendations under Florida Statute 1012.22 and asked staff to bring a standalone agenda item to the next regular meeting that would include job descriptions and candidate materials for directors and above.

The discussion centered on the board’s duty to “act upon written recommendations submitted by the district school superintendent,” the scope of “good cause” to reject a nomination, and whether the board should routinely receive job descriptions and resumés for certain noninstructional positions before voting. The board attorney said the statute assigns a shared responsibility, and staff said they already follow a multi-step hiring protocol that includes a C-13 personnel action form, interview rubrics and employment-history checks before recommending hires to the board.

Board member Phil Leary asked that future personnel matters for “directors and above” be pulled out of the bulk consent personnel list and presented as separate items with the job description and the recommended candidate’s application or resumé attached.
