Treasurer reports one-time police retention grant and steady cannabis-tax support for DARE

City Treasurer Conso reported to the Lincoln City Council that the city’s general fund position improved in June, in part because of one-time receipts and reimbursements and a police department hiring retention grant of $152,175 that the city received and will be paid out as retention grants for officers.
Conso said the improvement in the general fund also reflects timing of state income tax receipts and slight year-to-date increases in municipal sales and use taxes. He noted increases in the police pension fund balances due to recent stock market improvements and that the final consolidated fireman's pension fund statement for June was still pending.
During questions, an alderman asked how much of the city's cannabis tax proceeds had been routed to the DARE program since a prior council decision. Conso said those monthly transfers typically run “right around $650 to $750,” and that before the council's vote to allocate a portion of those proceeds, the DARE program did not receive funds from those receipts. Council members congratulated the program on a recent award to its officer.
