The council approved two public-works items presented by the city engineer: change order number 1 for the Woodfield Village raised-crosswalk project and a certificate of completion for a manhole grade-adjustment project.
Jeremy Grenard, city engineer, said crews removed additional concrete panels at two raised crosswalk locations in Woodfield Village after discovering low spots that caused standing water. The change order is $2,880 and increases the contract to $23,872; Grenard said the overall change-order amount for the project is 13.7 percent. The council moved, seconded and approved the change order by voice vote.
Grenard also told the council the manhole grade-adjustment project has been completed, that inspections are finished and that the city had received “very positive feedback.” He said the project adjusted 73 manholes and that staff will track further requests and consider similar projects in future paving efforts. The council accepted the certificate of completion by voice vote.
Grenard noted the city has about 10 raised crosswalks around Lafayette and said neighborhood requests for traffic-calming measures may be submitted to the engineering office to start the formal review process. He also said the city aims to coordinate manhole adjustments with paving work to avoid separate future work where possible.
