The council upheld a 60-day waiting period for demolition of the primary and secondary structures at 501 Cherokee after a historic preservation review.
Michael Sennett with Economic Development told the council the property is in the city's historic notebook and was reviewed by the historic preservation officer, Dan Kaiser, who recommended the 60-day waiting period. Sennett reminded the council that the body’s role was limited to upholding the waiting period, not granting or denying the demolition permit itself.
After a motion to uphold the waiting period was moved and seconded, the council approved the 60-day hold by voice vote.
Sennett did not provide a construction timeline, reasons for the demolition beyond what is in the file, or a decision on the demolition permit itself; the council’s action preserves the review period required by the city's historic-preservation process.
