Council approves on-call pavement testing contract with Alton Engineering, not to exceed $20,000

The Lafayette City Council approved an on-call contract with Alton Engineering to provide density testing for full-depth asphalt patching and other pavement testing for 2025.
Eric Felix, engineering planner, told council members, "This morning you have an on call contract with, Alton engineering to provide density testing for full depth asphalt patching and, any pavement testing needed for 2025. So the intent of this contract is to help us get higher quality and longer lasting pavement patches and any any pavement that we do." Felix said the contract will be billed according to the company's rate schedule and has a not-to-exceed amount of $20,000.
Council members asked whether this is a new practice. Felix explained that typically the contractor performing pavement work would employ a testing agency and that the city is now implementing internal use of such testing for both contractor work and street department projects.
A motion to approve the contract with Alton Engineering was moved, seconded and approved by the council. The meeting record shows no opposition on the vote. The contract is structured to support pavement quality assurance across city projects in 2025.
