The Hammond Redevelopment Commission received a communication Tuesday from Planning and Development recommending the commission refer a list of city-owned lots to staff with authorization to advertise a request for proposals for sale. The properties listed in the communication included sites commonly identified as 819 (address format in record), 170 Fifth Place, 6244 Homan Avenue, 6248 Homan Avenue, 6252 Homan Avenue and 4427 Wabash Avenue. Commission President acknowledged receipt of the memo and confirmed the communication will be referred to staff for action. Staff member Cynthia Rangel had provided the memo to the Planning and Development and Hammond Redevelopment Commission office on July 11, 2025, according to the record. The commission did not record a separate roll-call vote on the referral during the discussion; the chair noted the communication would be referred to staff. The referral authorizes staff to prepare and advertise an RFP for the sale of the identified parcels, subject to the usual internal city review and any applicable redevelopment plan or legal requirements before disposal of city property.
