Lanier Cooks, a resident at 3810 Orchard Drive, told the Hammond City Board she maintains the corner lot next to her home and asked the city to address vehicles parking on the grass and in the lot. Her remarks came during the public comment portion of the board meeting; she said multiple neighbors park on the lot and some city vehicles have parked there, and she asked the city to consider a sidewalk or no-parking signage to prevent damage to the lawn. Board members and staff said police could address parking enforcement and that engineering should evaluate signage or sidewalk options. A board member moved to forward the situation at 3810 Orchard Drive to the Hammond Police Department and engineering for follow-up; the motion carried by voice vote (ayes). A board member said the patrol captain would contact Cooks after the meeting to discuss enforcement options, and staff said they would investigate potential no-parking signage or other right-of-way actions. No immediate ordinance change was adopted at the meeting.
