The Hammond Capital Improvement Board approved a $5,020.40 allocation to replace a damaged bollard at the northwest corner of Martha and Kennedy avenues. Councilman Rakos moved the motion, seconded by Councilman Salinas; the motion passed 4-0 with no dissent.
Staff said the city solicited three quotes and selected Hawk Enterprises; public works will reuse parts salvaged from the original bollard where feasible. "We received quote from Hawk Enterprises after soliciting quotes. Wasn't the only quote we received. Of the 3 requested, this is to replace the bollard. Public works has the parts, salvaged from the original bollard at that location, and so we're reusing that bollard that's remains in good condition," a staff speaker said.
When asked whether the city knew which vehicle caused the damage, staff said that information would go through the police department and that restitution could be handled by the law department. The board did not direct staff to take additional action during the meeting beyond approving the replacement.
The item was listed as funding allocation number 263 and was approved without amendment or public comment.
