The Hammond Common Council on June 23 approved two final‑reading ordinances authorizing appropriations for parks events and advertising. Ordinance 25-13 moved $577,830.53 from the operating balance for the Hammond Park Department to fund special events and facilities. Ordinance 25-14 moved $20,897.92 from the innkeeper’s tax fund for event advertising in the park department.
"This appropriates, 57, $577,830.53 from the operating balance to, a host of different events. There's 2 1 9 Day, there's the Holiday Parade, Veterans Day Parade, Hessville Soccer Complex, Cinco de Mayo, and these are the special events that the city offers to the residents of the city of Hammond," Councilwoman Venez said while moving final passage of 25-13. On 25-14 she said the appropriation "is used for, event advertising." Both ordinances were recorded as passing 7 in favor, 0 opposed with 2 absent.
The appropriations were presented as routine funding for seasonal events, parades and park programming. No amendments or additional conditions were recorded during the council’s discussion. The votes on both items were recorded by Clerk Golic as unanimous among present members.
