The Hammond Redevelopment Commission on May 6 approved an environmental services proposal from Americo Inc. for additional soil sampling, a sampling and analysis plan and a revised remediation work plan at 628 Hoffman Street, the former Queen Anne Candy site now operating as Meets By Lynn.

Staff said the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) returned the site review with further requested steps; Americo would provide sampling, analysis and a revised remediation plan to address IDEM’s requirements. The commission voted 5–0 to approve the proposal and authorized staff to proceed with the work and advertise as needed.

Staff did not present a dollar amount for the proposal during the public discussion recorded in the transcript; staff said the additional work was necessary to meet IDEM’s requested steps. Commissioners asked no substantive follow-up questions before voting to authorize the proposal.

Staff will return with results of sampling and any required remediation recommendations to comply with IDEM.
