DC Everest students recognized for designing WIAA girls-wrestling championship figurine

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association presented DC Everest students and staff with the official girls-wrestling championship figurine after a student-designed prototype was produced at the district.
Mel Dow, associate director of the WIAA, told the DC Everest School Board the association could not find an existing female wrestler figurine for its girls'wrestling championship trophy and worked with DC Everest students and staff to develop one. "Your students conceived, modeled, designed, fabricated the prototype in, into your classrooms," Dow said. "This prototype and the CAD drawings they developed made their way to the same foundry that makes awards similar to the Oscars."
Steve (school staff lead) and students Derek Prince, Nathan Prince and Haley served as the school-side team. School staff described the process as starting when a coach reached out to the district's fabrication program; students modeled the figurine and produced CAD drawings that became the master sent to the foundry. A student who modeled for the figurine attended the meeting and was acknowledged by WIAA representatives.
Why it matters: board members and WIAA leaders described the project as a hands-on example of career- and technical-education work that connected classroom learning, fabrication skills and statewide athletics.
Outcome: the presentation was ceremonial; the board recognized the students and staff with applause and accepted the WIAA's acknowledgment.
Ending: Board members asked staff to reintroduce the students and praised the collaboration between the athletics community and the district's fabrication/technology program.
